When writing a college admissions essay, the hardest part can be just getting started. You know you need a unique story that demonstrates your intelligence and character, but how do you begin something like that?
You begin with a description of the setting. For example, an essay about learning how to channel competitiveness would probably contain a story about a sport. Here's an actual description used in an actual essay:
"The sky was gentling painting the sky a creamsicle orange, and with the smell of fresh-cut grass misty with dew in my nose, I hopped out of the car and sprinted over to my team."
This is a beginning that draws a reader in, right? That's the key!
